Part 10: Special Events Guide to Best Management Practices
Did you know that special events can contribute to water pollution? Whether you plan to host an athletic, automotive, carnival, circus, dog show/event, concerts/performance, festival/parade, these activities can have an impact on local waterways.
The Special Events Guide to Best Management Practices (BMPs) offers simple, actionable tips to event planners organizing special events for the community:
- Place mobile food facilities or portable toilets away from storm drains
- Keep wash water out of storm drains
- Dispose of wash water and/or wastewater correctly
- Manage cooking oil and grease responsibly
- Collect recyclable materials in clearly marked containers
- Properly manage waste (including trash and litter, pet and animal waste, green or wood waste)
Visit your city’s Stormwater Management (Buellton or Solvang) webpage to learn more about BMPs for Special Events or to download a copy of this BMP in English or Spanish.
